Gregory Ensminger Obituary

Greg was a man with a tough exterior, but for all those who knew him he was gentle, honest, loyal, kind-hearted and dedicated to loving and protecting those closest to him. He was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in 2021, and faced this journey with courage and bravery. Though this disease eventually took his life it will never define him, his spirit or his legacy.  Greg died peacefully, surrounded with love on January 23, 2026. He spent his final days in his home in Lacombe, AB surrounded by his family and his devoted pup.

Gregory Chad Ensminger was born May 16, 1972 in Edmonton, AB to Dennis and Eileen Ensminger. As the youngest of three, Greg was a wild child - fearless and funny. He spent most of his early days in Ponoka where he graduated high school and went on to earn his degree at the University of Alberta. He worked at Timber Wolf Truss for 20+ years with coworkers that became more like family.

Greg went on to have two daughters, Tanika and Haley whom he adored and dedicated his life to pursuing their every dream. His girls were his pride and joy. As a single dad he learned to braid hair, sit through every fashion show, and cheered them on at every sports game whether it was Timbits soccer, club volleyball or rec league slo pitch. He invested in their passions, and always wanted to hear every detail of their newest hobby or latest trip. He did it all. He supported them in everything they did and took every chance he could to brag about them.

When Greg’s son-in-law, Utah, joined the family in 2018, he loved him like his own. In his final years, Greg felt great peace knowing Utah would take great care of both of his daughters.

Greg also cherished and spoiled his dog Dexter. Dexter was Greg’s shadow. They loved truck rides and had a daily ritual of splitting a honey crueller - a ritual that will gladly be carried on.

Greg loved the outdoors and his favourite days were spent out west camping and ATVing. He lived life simply, and a perfect day looked like time spent with his girls, a cold beer, some clam, a campfire and a karaoke machine. He was the life of the party.

Greg was everything good.

He is survived and dearly missed by his parents, Dennis and Eileen Ensminger; his brother, Kevin (Thea) Ensminger; his sister, Shauna Ensminger; his two daughters, Tanika (Utah) Lamb and Haley Ensminger; his nieces and nephew, Elora, Owen, Kaiya and Eve; his devoted dog, Dexter; as well as many loving friends and family.

A Memorial Service for Greg will be held at the Lacombe Legion on Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at 2:00pm. Light snacks and coffee will be provided after the service; legion lounge will be open to serve beverages.
