Evelyn (Evie) Andrew passed away at the Rimbey Care Center on January 2, 2026 at the age of 93. Evie was born on June 22, 1932 in Bentley, Alberta, the youngest of 13 children to Anna and Edward Haarstad.
Evie attended school at the Stephenson School before finishing her education at Bentley. Evie's father passed away when she was 5 years old, so all the Haarstad kids had to help out on the farm. Evie and her sister Shirley, spent many hours helping with the field work and milking cows.
Evie met Walter Andrew at a Saturday Night Dance at Bentley and they were married on June 15, 1951. They bought a small house and moved it to their homestead in the Gilby area, where they started their life together. On that farm they raised their four children. Walt and Evie moved to Eckville in 1979 when their son took over the farm. Evie was always so proud that the farm is now home to the next generation, as her grandson is carrying on the family tradition.
When they moved to Eckville, Evie spent countless hours helping out in the community and was often found supporting her kids and grandkids sports and activities. Many hours were spent tending to her flowers and garden. She always welcomed everyone to her home and there was never a shortage of food offered. Her kind and gentle approach to life made her a friend to all and she was "Grandma Evie" to more than her own grandkids.
Evie and Walter spent much of their retirement years camping and fishing with family and great friends. Life changed forever when Walter died in January 2006. A few years later, Evie moved to the Eckville Manor House where she continued her friendship with lifelong friends. Mom loved her time at Eckville Manor, especially her time with Kelly Judson, who held a special place in moms' heart. She moved to Rimbey Care Center for her last two years but Eckville was always home to her. Evie leaves to mourn four children Lorrie (Neil) Judson, Ron (Karen) Andrew, Janice (Allen) Murphy and Deb (Greg) Engman all of Eckville. Her family has grown to include 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister and lifelong best friend, Shirley Christensen and her sister in law, Helen Andrew. She will also be missed by the many friends and family that touched her life.
The family would like to thank the Eckville Manor House and the Rimbey Care Center for all the care mom received. Both places provided mom with a loving place for her to call home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eckville Hall on Monday January 19, 2026 at 2:00 PM.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the donors choice.
For those not able to attend a video recording of the service will appear the evening following the service.
