Anne Christine Sisson passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
Anne was born to Alfred and Alberta Swainson on March 27, 1951 and, following their passing in a motor vehicle collision in 1953, was lovingly raised by Earl and Helen Grimson. She grew up on the family farm in the Burnt Lake district, where she attended Burnt Lake School and later Sylvan Lake School. A dedicated student, Anne was proud to serve as her Grade 9 valedictorian. She continued her education at Red Deer College, earning a diploma in Secretarial Science.
Anne spent many years working at the Lacombe Research Station as the Director’s Secretary, a prestigious and highly responsible position that reflected her professionalism and capability. From 1974 onward, Anne was deeply involved in running the family farm and landscape/oilfield business. She also worked with Co-operators Insurance in Lacombe, where she was known for her strong work ethic and reliability.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Peter Sisson; her children, Robert Sisson and Leah Steeneveld (Arjan); (daughter-in-law Samantha Grundy); and her cherished grandchildren, Daylen Meszaros; Jazlyn, Elden, and Nash Steeneveld; and Kashton and Oakleigh Sisson. Anne is also survived by her brothers Wes Swainson, Doug Grimson, and Ken Grimson; her sisters Kathy Classon and Dorothy Murray; and a large extended family who held her close to their hearts. Anne was predeceased by her beloved parents, Alfred and Alberta Swainson, and Earl and Helen Grimson, and her beloved son, Kristofur Sisson.
Anne found great delight in life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking, reading, and especially gardening. Her kitchen was often filled with the warmth of homemade meals, from garden produce carefully canned to large-batch dishes made with love. Gardening was one of her greatest passions—she had a true green thumb and delighted in flowers, landscape design, and preserving blooms in her flower press.
In 1991, Anne joined the Lakeside Social Workers, where she worked alongside fellow community members and was honoured for 25 years in 2013 and a Lifetime Membership in 2022. Above all, Anne treasured time with her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she always made time for them, finding endless joy in their presence.
Anne was a remarkably strong and resilient woman. Through life’s challenges, she faced each day with determination and a wonderful sense of humour. Her ability to laugh, even during difficult times, was a source of strength for her and those around her.
Those who knew Anne well knew she had a heart of gold. She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and welcoming smile—qualities that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Lacombe Memorial Centre (LMC).
